  • Need to leave

well this is not nearly my whole life story but I guess all I can say is I starting being abused by my dad sexually and physically when I was 6 since then I'm not 15 I have been in foster care twice and am in foster care now. I hate my life everyone hates me and wants me gone, I want to runaway. Im on medicine, and now they (meaning CYS) said they wanted to put me in a diagnostic treatment center to check my meds. I was never allowed outside at home and my biggest fear is being locked up again. They said it's for 45 days, I just can't! So I need to runaway but don't know where to go, I'm deffinatly going to run sometime this week. I can't let my life be ruined again, I hate my life and I hate myself, I just want to leave forever. I need advice, please! Thanks.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the National Runaway Switchboard and sharing your story with us. It sounds like you’ve gone through some horrible experiences and are going through a lot of pain. It’s understandable you feel scared about what could happen if you go to the treatment center especially after feeling like you were locked up at home in the past. It is not your fault what your father did to you and you deserve opportunity like anyone else. You sound resilient when you say you can’t let your life be ruined again. Keep holding on to that feeling when times get rough.

Has this place you speak of, CYS, talked to you about what other options you may have besides the diagnostic treatment center? Is there anyone you can voice your opinion to that can see if there are any other options? Running away is a big step to take especially if you don’t know where to go and not sure how you’re going to survive. There are shelters and day drop in centers around the country but we would need to know your city and state to help you find them.

We do not give advice nor can we tell you what to do. You are a very brave young person. If you feel comfortable, Please call us if you need to talk about this more at 1-800-RUNAWAY. We are available 24 hours, 7 days a week and we are a confidential and anonymous hotline.

    Best of Luck,
    NRS
Please remember you can reach us directly by calling our 24 hour hotline, 1-800-RUNAWAY (786-2929) or through our Live Chat.
