It sounds like you have come up with a plan that allows you to help your community. You sound like a very caring person and we wish all the best to you. At this point we would like to remind you that our bulletins are intended for issues associated with runaway, homeless, and at risk youth, their families, etc. and we need to keep posted topics within those topics.

Thank you for the convenience... I will use the referrals sometime in the future. I believe that in order for me to be of true help I must first stregthen the ties of my own family, so ive decided to try and donate my time to some seniors at an elderly community playing games and learning what strength has preceeded them. I believe that ill be able to use what I learn to a greater extent if I do it this way. Prayerfully, Rustin.

Thanks for getting back in touch with the National Runaway Switchboard. We appreciate your feedback and your involvement on the bulletin board. It seems that your friend have a close relationship with both his brother and family.

It seems that referrals were mentioned in the previous response from the National Runaway Switchboard. Were you interested in receiving referrals? How are things at home?

    Re: family

When I was in grade school my best friend told me his brother left home (ran away). He said he called on holidays. I still remeber it often and know that it was a turning point in his life. When I pray I visualize what strengths were added to that family. I think about what real life experiences effect that family and I think about the maturity. My best friend could throw a rock farther than I thought was possible... Today I am thankful because many things couldnt shake that family. False pretenses couldnt penetrate their resolve. My best friend had a foundation his older brother started; on of independence and calls on holidays. Today I pray that he gave that strength back to his parents and im confident that he did.

    Re: family

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting National Runaway Switchboard at a time that seems very stressful for you. We imagine it must be very hard on you to see your family go through so many changes, from your brother leaving, your mother's sorrow and your father's decision to stay at work longer. Has he explained why he needs to now pay more attention to his job? It sounds like you had a close family and now everything seems to be spiraling our of control. How does that make you feel? Do you have others you can count on for support? It sounds your brother is still having ways to support you from afar by sending birthday wishes to you. However, it may mean he is dealing with his own feelings. Do you think he want you to feel burden by his actions?

Have you consider talking to your family about getting family counseling together? We do provide resources if you are seeking referrals to local places to get this sort of help. We are not in the position to tell you what to do but we wish to hear from you directly if you are seeking emotional support. We are confidential and anonymous.

Are there alternatives to leaving? Do you have someone you can speak to about this matter? Speaking about your feelings can help if you have no one at home. What is your plan for leaving? In the event you left, we can be a source to contact for shelters or if you needed to communicate with your family at home. We provide a message and conference call service if you wish to reunify. How can we help? We hope you contact us if you are seeking resources to counseling or simply to talk. Stay strong. Good luck.
